Hi guys, today for my free blog I will be talking about Taylor Swift's performance last week Sunday, the 23rd. She performed the song "Blank Space" in Los Angeles, California. I decided to write my blog about her because lately I have been obsessed with her song the "Blank Space". The song is a joke about how she has so many ex-boyfriends, that she is like a crazy serial killer. It doesn't sound too pleasant, but her song is number one on many charts. I really like her music video to the song. I noticed that in her vide, she gets different angles and locations…IT'S GENIUS!!! I like her performance because of all the action in it. There were flips, lots of fire, and awesome props. Check it out, I think you would like it too!
It’s not about what you have in your pocket that makes you thankful, but what you have in your heart! Hi, Happy Thanksgiving!!! Today I thought I would share with you what I am truly thankful for. I’m sure that we are all thankful for many things in our life, but I will just be writing about the things that come to my mind when I think about being thankful. I am thankful for my friends, family, and my teachers.
I am so thankful for my friends because they are always there for me. My friends are the crazy ones, the ones you would only find once in a lifetime. They always make me laugh, sometimes to the point where I can't catch my breath. They always laugh at my jokes even if they don’t get it, or if it is beyond horrible. They are so patient with me and always know how to cheer me up...now that's what you call true friendship.
I am truly thankful for my amazing family. They have been through the ups and the downs with me and they are there for me when I am sad. I am fortunate to have a family that supports me in every way possible. I have come to realize that not everyone has a family, so I am grateful for being able to have a loving family.
Lastly, I am thankful for my teachers because they take the time to teach us things and help us get our own job someday. They also help prepare use for college, weather it's teaching us life lessons or teaching us simple math. Think about it, without teachers there would be no jobs us because we wouldn't be educated to find a good job.
I have so many things to be thankful for, from having a house to being alive. I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving, and remember there is always ALWAYS something to be thankful for! Till next time ByE!!!
Yay! I got to watch the the new Movie "Hunger Games, Mockingjay Part 1" that came out on Friday. I realized that most of you haven't seen it, so instead spoiling it for all of you and doing a movie review, I will talk about the song in the movie.
Katniss Everdeen sang the song to Pollux. The backstory to the song "The Hanging Tree" is that it was taught to her by her dad before he passed away. At that moment, she was very young and didn't know what it meant. When she got older, she understood that the person singing the song was about a man who was killed and was calling for his love to come join him, so that they would not have to suffer the cruelty of torture.
At one point in the revelation, Katniss really understands the true meaning of the song, because the Capital is torturing them and their loved ones, because Katniss is a sign of a rebellion. The song is turned in to a chant of the rebels which is why in the middle of the song people join in with Katniss. The funniest thing is that a lot of people in the theater was singing this song, including me!
Just as a warning the movie has some pretty intense scenes. The most intense scene is the one with Peeta, don't worry I won't tell you when in the movie this happens. Peeta looks really bad because he has been tortured by the Capital.. The effects were done with CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery). It has some pretty cool effects, I hope you guys go and see it, but I hope you don't have to wait in a long like me though...
Below is a poll, if you are a fan of the Hunger Games, which would YOU prefer to fight with in the rebellion against the Capital. Leave a comment telling me why you wanted that weapon. Personally I would prefer a crossbow because I have one at home.
Also below is the song and the movie trailer. Enjoy! ByE!!!
Ever made a mistake and wished that you had a chance to do it over? We all make mistakes, so you're not the first. Sometimes the mistakes we make are big or they could be small. No one is perfect. I'll admit, i have made many mistakes...from not looking at where I'm going, not preparing enough for a test, and especially in STN. However, my biggest mistake that I wish I could do over happened in Florida during the Student Television Network competition. My mistake was not planning things well enough. I would like to have a do-over because by not planning well enough it affected the b-roll, our editing, and almost our turn-in time.
Our planning affected our b-roll because we took too long to get our filming done, so we couldn't get our extra b-roll. Without enough b-roll, we had to use our shots over and over again which didn't look too interesting. If I could have a do-over and take more b-roll it would have made the final product more exciting. Imagine watching the same video sequence over and over again. Pretty boring, right? Now try to imagine watching all kinds of shots in a sequence to tell a story... isn't that better? By switching things up during the video it could help keep the viewer engaged.
Some of you may be wondering "How could your planning have affected your editing?". Well, by not planning better we were late for the editing room, which means that we had less time to edit. I felt the pressure build while editing because the time was ticking away, so I feel like it could have been edited better with more quality work.
We cut it close to the turn-in time. In the very last 10 seconds of the contest, the count down started. In those remaining seconds we had 10 seconds to get our product onto the flash drive and hand it in the basket before the last second. The planning played a big a BIG roll in this part because we didn't start exporting our video early enough, so we cut it super close and turned it in 6 seconds before the end of the contest. This was so stressful.
So, proper planning is the key to being in Music Video. Without planning well you may not have time to film your b-roll, edit, and may cut it close to the count down. If I could do-over one mistake I would rewind to last year's STN days to fix my planning strategy. ByE!!!
Last week, we had our 2nd Craft Fair with some food trucks and a Zumba session, in our covered playcourt. The craft fair was from 8:30am to 1:30pm and the Zumba was from 10:00am to 11:30am. I started the morning by setting up signs and doing decorations to attract more customers. I helped make a sign for the face painting. Yes, you heard me... face painting. Thank you to Uncle Duke for donating his service for us. I got my face painted for advertisement and it was awesome! Most of us participated in Zumba and we danced to almost all of the songs. I didn't get into it much, but I regret it because it was so fun! I wish we could do another one. We thanked everyone for coming and handed out oranges and frozen grapes. Thank you to all the our vendors and Troy Lazaro and the Rockstars and to all those that supported our Zumba fundraiser. After Zumba-ing, we ate ice cream, candy, and yummy food from the food vendors. It was a day full of excitement, energy, crafts, food, and fun! Check out the picture of our craft fair and Zumba below. Mahalo!
STN is coming fast and that means that we will need to form our teams. For those of you who are new to STN, it stands for Student Television Network and it is a national competition. Each year we go to a different state. Last year, we went to Florida and this year we will be going to San Diego.
Every year, the theme of STN changes. For example, last year the theme was "Keepin' It Real". This year, the theme is "Capture the Moment!". There are six teams that we will be entering in six contest categories. Every team is given a prompt on the day of the competition The first team is called the anchor team. The team is made up of 2 students, one at the camera and one reporting the prompt. Commercial, Movie Trailer, Music Video, and PSA have 4 team members. However, Spot Feature is the only one with 3 students (one in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade). Spot Feature is like our quarter projects that we are doing now, except this team has a limited amount of time.
Last year, I was part of the music video team and we placed 2nd in the middle school music video category. I enjoyed the experience and found the practices we did helped us prepare for STN. But going and competing in STN was more intense and stressful. My experience being part of music video made me realize the true meaning of "teamwork". When working in small groups such as Music video, you have to all work closely and cooperatively. It may seem easy, but when you don't have team members that are willing, hardworking and committed it gets to be more frustrating and hard to have everyone to stay focused and work together as a team.
All of the students for this week's blog has to decide which team they would like to be in. This blog is about the BIG choice I will have to make for... DUN,DUN,DUN...., STN. I am looking at being back in the Music Video team. Last year, I enjoyed being the actor, co-directer, and editor. I hope to do the same this year. I was the actor because the others were shame. I actually liked singing and acting in front of the camera and what really helped was that my friends were the other actors and this helped me feel comfortable singing and acting in the songs with them.
The best team with the most potential is the one that has committed and hard working team members. STN here we come... MkaY ByE!!!
This weeks blog is going to be about the progress of my project. Taylor and I are running a little behind schedule. We did an interview with Carey Koide last week, who is KIUC's Transmission Distribution Manager and he us the KIUC SOS (Save our Shearwater Coordinator). Taylor and I took advantage of Election Day, so we scheduled 2 interviews that day. Last week school we ended at about 11:30am, so we had a whole week to get caught up.
We interviewed Carey on October 27th and had some technical difficulties. One of the problems we encountered was that the battery for the 60D died during our b-roll filming, so we had to go to Plan B and use a different camera. Also, the Tas-cam's audio was not reaching the sound limit, but was still receiving audio from the mic.s. We ended up recording the interview because the sound was fine in the computer. We finished transcribing his interview, so that's one less thing to worry about.
Taylor and I scheduled an interview with Tracy Anderson on the 4th. She is the Save Our Shearwaters Program Coordinator at the Humane Society. We interviewed her regarding the shearwaters so that we could open our story with what shearwaters are.
The biologist was really hard to schedule a interview with since he was always running around the island on vacation. So we finally got in contact with him to schedule an interview with him, however, he didn't have a set place to do an interview because it all depended where he was when we were ready. Our interview at the Humane Society ended up later than expected, so we cancelled our interview with him. We just told him that we would we would be okay since we couldn't get our schedules to meet. We realized that we don't really need another interview, so we are starting our script.
So that's sort of how our project is so far. We are basically done with our transcribing, so we are catching up! Wish us luck! Bye:)
I know, Micah you wrote about this for your blog, but for those of you may not have heard, the movie Big Hero 6 is coming out this Friday. I have been looking forward to watching this movie since, well...forever. The setting takes place at a futuristic town called San Fransokyo. This movie is about a 14 year old boy, Hiro. His older brother, Tadashi, created a robot named Baymax to help as a medial assistant. Hiro turns Baymax in to a crime fighting robot to help take down a man in a "kabuki mask" super villain. Hiro and Baymax pull together as team of inexperienced crime-fighters (Wasabi, Honey Lemon, GoGo Tomago, and Fred) to uncover a criminal plot. The movie trailer is so cool. I have the movie trailer and a short part of the film where Hiro is introduced to Baymax and also the Team. My favorite character is Fred because he is so clueless and really funny. It's a cute movie so I hope to see you at the movie theaters this Friday! Bye:)
Hiro Meets Baymax
One of our fundraisers that we do is a car wash. It raises funds for our trip to STN. Last week we held our first CKTV Car Wash of the year. We washed a little over 50 cars. We washed all kinds of vehicles even a motorcycle with a skeleton in the back. We made a good amount of money considering that it was our first car wash of the year.. It was a fun day for all of us. I posted pictures below of our car wash
Today, we did a community service clean up at Lydgate Park. Most of the parents and students showed up to help out at our very first community service that was planned by the 8th graders. We started at 8:30 am and finished around 10:30am. We were split up into 4 different groups. The groups were pulling weeds, picking up plastic shards, filling the pond with sand, and picking up debris. The group I was in was filling up buckets of sand and dumping it in to the ocean. I posted pictures below of our morning of service.
I'm so Kelli, you already know me, I'm in Me-dia, from 7th grade to 8th grade oh,
